Happenings

Hmm, so it's been a while since I've posted. What's new? Well.. not too much. John and I had some friends over on Saturday in which we had a little cookout. I love love love having people over for dinner, so I was so excited about this. After we got done eating, we all played Apples to Apples which is a very fun game. Today, well yesterday, I worked at night so I missed the fireworks and actually can't remember the last year I did see them. Maybe four years ago? Because it seems like every stinkin 4th of July I've been working around here!!

A week after completing my first year of nursing school (my last post) I had this five week Dimensions class. It covered nursing research, ethics and the like. The last week of that we had to give presentations within our 4-5 person groups. Oh did I despise this! I normally avoid public speaking at.all.costs. Talking in front of strangers is not something I fancy. Nonetheless, I did it.. and managed a B in that class! Would have liked an A.. since I haven't seen one of those in soo long, but hey, I'm not perfect. LOL!

Now I am just keeping busy this summer by doing my student nurse internship. I have about 5 weeks left with my preceptor. I have gained a small amount of confidence through this, nothing big at all. I am still scared shitless to do most things myself. I have gained more confidence doing vital signs (which you wouldn't think would be hard but every patient is different and some things are easier on some than they are on others.), baby feedings and other things. I can't imagine how I'm going to be a nurse in a year. I don't know if I'm going to be able to do it. There's just.so.much to learn and know.. let alone what I will have to know for nursing school.

Well.. I think I'm going to get back to work for now.. almost 4am, now only 3 more hours left to go!

Class results

Well, it was a toss up, but..


I passed my class and have now finished my first year of nursing school! It is a two year program so now I am half way done! (Even though it has taken already 2++ years to get to this point!) I now have a week off until I start again, taking Dimensions in Nursing. I'm not quite sure what this class entails but I sure hope to pull an A or B out of it to balance out my C's I've been getting.


I needed to get at least a 70% on the final to accumulate to a 75% for the class which would get me a C by the lowest points possible. (Don't judge me.. this is the hardest thing I've ever done!!) I thought for sure our instructors weren't going to have our grades posted until late tonight. After the test, I went to visit John at his second job (John started a new position at his first job today so we were both a ball of nerves all weekend!) and caught him going in. He asked me how I did on my test and I told him I wasn't sure since we didn't find out our grades yet. I went to eat some lunch and then decided to go to the library and take a look at the grades just to see if the instructors didn't want to keep us waiting for once.

There it was.. final exam 76%!! Now let me tell you.. the four people I talk with in my class didn't make it and will have to retake this course over the summer or in the fall. I consider myself lucky and very blessed that I knew those few answers that granted me the points to pass.

I am now very excited to move on to my summer internship and get everything out of that, that I can.

Big Brother audition!

So I did go try out for Big Brother last Wednesday and it was a great day, weather wise as well! John was able to get the afternoon off so he went with me and made it so much better and enjoyable. I was #26 for the auditions and when we got there they were on #15 or so. I watched and listened in on the questions that were being asked so I was prepared when it was my turn. Basically, this was to film your two minute tape that you would normally submit with your 13 page application, photos and copies. What they did was asked you questions and you would answer them while being filmed. The interview process helped so much with keeping the audition flowing. I was asked why I was here, what would set me apart from other house guests, how do I think I would do in competition, if I have any personal goals while in the house, three words to describe myself, if I would have a problem with viewers seeing me that way, and some personal info by myself. How I replied to these questions will be another post.

I got it!

Great news.. I got the summer nursing internship! I was told at the interview that I've got it! Now I'm just waiting on an official phone call from human resources to offer me the position. I found out last Thursday and John and I celebrated by going out to Friday's on Friday. It is more per hour than I make now, so that's always a bonus!! I originally though I was going to be working on a short stay unit because that's what the signature on the email noted the person was emailing me from, but it turned out that's just where they were holding the interviews. I was able to pick where I wanted to go and since I couldn't decide because I'm really open to everything-- I'm going to be following a PRN. PRNs are nursing that float anywhere in the hospital that needs nurses that shift. I will get to see everything! Sometimes I think "what did I get myself into?" by being with a PRN that goes anywhere.. but no doubt, I will survive it!

So that will be my summer! I'm sure it will go by extra fast now..

Big Brother!

My favorite summer time guilty pleasure is Big Brother, hands down. Needless to say, I could hardly contain myself last night when a co worker pointed out they are having an open casting call at the Waterfront in a couple weeks. Two years ago I did the whole application bit, the 14 page questionnaire, copy of this copy of that and the video. I didn't try last season and wasn't going to for this one simply because I felt I should be focusing on other things. Well, if the Big Brother crew is coming here, why not give it a shot!!

I like to tickle myself into trying out for these types of things. I went and tried out for the Price is Right whenever the crew came to the new Casino here. It was the first the the Price is Right had gone on the road for a "contestant search." I'm determined to make it a life long goal to somehow get on TV via a game show or show like Big Brother. A game show where I win money would be the best thing!

What's happening on the first day of spring?

I haven't posted in quite some time! It's a beautiful weekend here in which I have nothing to do. Of course John is working so I can never look forward to spending a weekend with him. Now, I could read some chapter for school, which I'm sure I will end up doing.. but for such a long time, I've always had something planned for my weekend. Last night John and I went out to Bob Evans which is soo yummy and might be a new favorite of mine. For so long I never gave Bob Evans a chance because I though it was just breakfast food all the time. So silly of me. Hello, Bob Evans does have mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese for sale at the grocery store, so of course the restaurant would have more than just breakfast food.

In my last post I wrote about how excited I was that I got an email saying I was on to the next round of interviews for this nursing internship position. I walked around so happy, you would have thought I already got the job. Well, I have the interview on Thursday the 25th so we will see then. My GPA is not up to what they were looking for, so I'm a little worried about. I hope I can "charm" the interviewers some how.

Valentine's Day 2010

Happy Valentine's Day all!

4 years ago today John proposed to me and I accepted! I recieved a wonderful card from him today and when I first started reading it, it took a while to get past the first line. To my wonderful wife on Valentine's Day. To my wonderful wife on Valentine's Day. That was all I was hearing my head. I still can't believe I'm married. Has it taken everyone this long? Well, I guess it hasn't been that long, just since Sept. 19, 09.

We exchanged very small, edible gifts this year, which was great. With all the snow fall and busy work/school patterns lately neither one of us really had the time to pick up anything. I don't mind and I know John didn't either. Focusing on the meaning of the day and not so much on materialistic things was great for a change. It really had us focusing on the clever words and personal messages on our cards. Since we were both working, well John was all day, while I was sleeping to prepare for another night at work, we didn't get to see each other much this Valentine's Day. I hope a nice dinner out for Tuesday will pan out.

Recipes for 2010

I like many others want to set some goals for 2010. Aside from exercising more, and trying to lose weight I also want to make some different dishes. John doesn't eat a wide variety at all and I don't eat a lot of things but I do eat more than him. I'm going to link some recipes here that I would like to try for 2010 :)
